The Woodlands-based Marcel Group broke ground on Marcel District on May 14 at 18702 University Blvd., Sugar Land, located in the extraterritorial jurisdiction. The
7.3-acre development in the Riverstone community will include about 41,785 square feet of retail-, restaurant- and service-oriented space and about 27,000 square feet of Class A office space. Tenants will include a mix of fast-casual and sit-down restaurant concepts; fashion boutiques; and salon and professional services, such as a dentist’s office.

Carol McCutcheon, a Sugar Land City Council member; Elizabeth Huff, the director of economic development for the city; Swapnil Agarwal, CEO and managing partner of Nitya Capital; Riverstone General Manager Trey Reichert; and Abe Pacetti, the Regency Centers vice president of investments, helped Marcel Group founder Vernon Veldekens with the Groundbreaking for a Cause event. The event included $5,000 donations to Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity, Fort Bend Education Foundation, Fort Bend Family YMCA, Fort Bend Women's Center and Karya Kares Foundation.
