The senior adult population in Sugar Land and Missouri City has increased in the past five years, creating a need for senior living developments.

Missouri City has three age-restricted communities—all of which have been developed in the last 10 years, Missouri City Planning Manager Jennifer Thomas Gomez said. Two more are in the works.

“Older adults are choosing to remain [in] or move to the community,” she said.

In contrast, Sugar Land has gained two senior independent-living communities in the past 10 years, said Lisa Kocich-Meyer, director of planning for Sugar Land.

“Specifically for the senior population, the 65 [years old and older] population represented over 10 percent of the city’s population as reported in the 2010 census for the first time in the city’s history,” Kocich-Meyer said.
