A new University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is coming to Missouri City, representatives with the health care system confirmed.

The details

The new facility is being constructed along Hwy. 6, public relations officials said. The center will provide cancer prevention and diagnostic imaging clinical services to area residents, they said.

Prevention includes risk management and medical screenings for several types of cancers, according to the cancer center's website. Regular cancer screening exams, based on gender and age, are recommended for breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer, per the website.

MD Anderson Cancer Center is focused on cancer patient care, research, education and prevention, per its website. The institution has several locations throughout the Greater Houston area, including at the Texas Medical Center and in Sugar Land, according to a fact sheet on the website.

Per the fact sheet, the system served more than 179,000 patients last year. It also received $21.4 million in grants from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute in Texas in August to further the system's cancer research as well as aid in recruitment, Community Impact reported.
