Missouri City’s police department could purchase a Flock drone if awarded a grant from the State Homeland Security Program.

At a March 2 meeting, Missouri City City Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting the application for a $300,000 Law Enforcement Terrorism Prevention Activities Grant from the State Homeland Security Program to fund the purchase of the drone.
LETPA is a two-year grant with no match and would be used to purchase the first responder drone in fiscal year 2026-27, according to agenda documents.
Why it matters
City officials said the drone could be deployed to the scene of a crash before officer arrivals, allowing for the on-duty supervisor to view the scene in real-time and dedicate appropriate resources.
The drone could also be used for events where crowd control is a concern.
What's next
Submission for the grant is due March 16, with final decisions expected in late summer, officials said. If awarded, the grant would kick in for FY 2026-27, and the drone would be purchased in the third quarter of 2026.
Officials said they will explore other ways to receive the funds if it is not awarded.
