Galaxy All Abilities Park, the first all-abilities park funded by Fort Bend County, is moving forward after delays following high bid numbers, county officials said.

The big picture

At an April 8 meeting, Fort Bend County commissioners approved a $601,961 construction contract focused on site preparation with DL Meacham L.P. The Sugar Land park, set to be located at 1515 Stadium Drive, is near Constellation Field.

Another contract will appear on the agenda at the April 22 commissioners meeting for playground equipment and landscaping, Dennis Spellman, Fort Bend County Precinct 3 media relations and external engagement manager, said in an email.

A closer look

The estimated $1.27 million space-themed park aims to be accessible for all children, including those with disabilities, Community Impact reported.

The 1.29-acre park features will include:
  • Sensory walls
  • Interactive play equipment
  • Tactile elements to encourage exploration
The park is funded by the county's 2020 and 2023 parks bonds, county officials previously said.

In case you missed it

In March, commissioners approved Super Dave’s All Abilities Park, the second all-abilities park funded by the county, to be located in Fulshear at 4200 Katy Fulshear Road.

The 1.6-acre park will feature three play zones, a splash pad, a pavilion and fully accessible pathways. The $3.4 million park is set to be completed in mid-to-late 2026.

Going forward

The Sugar Land park, which was initially set to be completed in October, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, Spellman said. An exact timeline is not available as of press time.
