Residents are invited to take part in the opening of Missouri City’s first park addition since 2008, city officials said.

The big picture

Missouri City officials will welcome Troxell Park, the city’s 21st park, at a grand opening and ribbon cutting event on Jan. 18 from 10-11 a.m., said Daniele Stewart, parks and recreation assistant director for Missouri City.

The park is located at 4022 Diantha St., Missouri City.

The details

Construction on the 3.83-acre park began in September 2023 and includes trail connections to Community Park, located at 1700 Glenn Lakes Lane, Missouri City, Stewart said. The park will eventually connect to the expansion of Freedom Tree Park, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

Additional park features include:
  • A playground
  • Pavilions
  • Cornhole boards
  • Ping pong tables
  • Walking trail
  • A bioswale for stormwater runoff
The $1.3 million park was funded by dedication funds from the development of the Parks Edge neighborhood, Stewart said.

What's in a name?

The park was named after Randy Troxell, former assistant director of parks & recreation, who retired in October 2020 after three decades of service, Community Impact reported. The naming was approved by City Council in February 2021.

“During his 30 years of service, Randy was involved in the acquisition, design or development of half of Missouri City’s parks,” Stewart said. “Randy viewed his work as a labor of love, and Troxell Park serves as a testament of his service to our community.”
