A second city-owned splash pad is coming to Sugar Land’s Memorial Park.

In a nutshell

At a Sept. 3 meeting, Sugar Land City Council approved an $85,000 design contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for the Memorial Park Splash Pad project.

The city maintains a splash pad in the Riverpark neighborhood alongside other aquatic facilities such as the Sugar Land Municipal Pool, Communications Director Doug Adolph said.

The new splash pad is set to include water management tools as well as:
  • Shade structures
  • Sidewalk connections
Funding for the design will be provided by the Sugar Land 4B Corp., who is also expected to provide the estimated $500,000 for the splash pad’s construction, according to agenda documents.

In their own words

As a high-traffic area for families, Memorial Park was identified as an ideal location for the splash pad to re-energize the 20-year-old park, Adolph said. Additionally, the splash pad helps in response to resident’s desire for park amenities.

“The splash pad design will complement the existing landscape and infrastructure, promote an inclusive, family-friendly environment and provide cooling amenities as requested by the community,” he said.

What’s next?

Design will begin in September and is expected to wrap up April, Adolph said.

A construction timeline has not yet been established.
