Missouri City children will soon have two new playground structures at two local parks.

The gist

Bicentennial Park and Ridgeview Park will soon see $703,171 in improvements, including new playground equipment and updated surfacing, after City Council approved an updated parks contract at a March 4 meeting.

Bicentennial Park is located at 2130 Adams St., Missouri City, while Ridgeview is 3902 Ridgeview Drive, Missouri City.

Funding for this project comes from the city’s $85.85 million November 2021 bond, which included $23.01 million in park funds, including $500,000 to upgrade Bicentennial Park and $800,000 for Ridgeview Park, according to the agenda packet.

The background

Missouri City City Council previously approved a $521,483 contract with Cunningham Recreation for both parks Nov. 6, which became eligible for a 50-50 grant match from GameTime Playground, according to agenda documents.

Since its initial approval, the city has solicited public input through two public meetings and a survey, and has adjusted the project to include pour-in-place playground surfacing based on feedback from the community, raising the price $181,688 and prompting reapproval from City Council, according to agenda documents.

What’s next

With City Council approval, upgrades will soon begin, though a construction timeline was not available as of press time.

Community Impact reached out to the city of Katy to learn more about the design and timeline of the new playgrounds, but responses were not provided by press time. This story will be updated when the information is received.
