Missouri City council members approved the dedication of more than 200 acres of land to be used for future parks during the council’s Dec. 18 meeting.

The overview

Parks and Recreation Department Director Donnie Hayes said the city will receive roughly 211 acres of land from Johnson Development—the national residential and commercial development firm responsible for constructing the Sienna community in Fort Bend County.

Hayes noted the land is broken up into four parcels that will be located along the upcoming expansion of the Fort Bend Parkway Toll Road.

In November, the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority completed work on a $43.4 million project extending the toll road from Sienna Parkway to Sienna Ranch Road, said Lisa Castañeda, deputy operating officer with Mike Stone Associates. Officials are now in the design phase of a $19 million project that will extend the toll road east of the Brazos River.

Hayes noted there are no current plans for how the parcels will be used, but he said city officials should have a better idea of how they will develop the land as the area expands.

“In the future as budgets become available, through community input and best practices, designs will be created,” Hayes said. “These parcels will be great for trails and outdoor education as one of the suggested uses.”
