The Missouri City Branch of the Fort Bend County library system is gearing up to host a vital program aimed at safeguarding seniors from the rising trend of targeted scammers.

“Savvy Seniors Scam Prevention,” a library-hosted event, is part of the Active Adult series tailored for older adults and their family members, according to a news release.

The program is scheduled to take place Aug. 4 from 2-3 p.m. at the Missouri City library's meeting room, located at 1530 Texas Parkway.

Erica Knighton, a representative from the Prairie View A&M Extension Office in Fort Bend County, will be leading the session. With expertise in the field, Knighton will enlighten attendees about the various tactics employed by con artists, particularly through the internet, cellphones and email, to target unsuspecting victims. Additionally, she will shed light on some of the most common scams and delve into the psychology behind the most effective ones, according to the release.
