Fort Bend County Commissioners Court has extended a contract with a consulting and engineering firm helping the county manage federal funds and projects due to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Commissioners court unanimously approved the contract amendment with Tetra Tech during its Nov. 8 meeting, extending the contract through Sept. 30, 2023, at a cost of $393,272, according to Commissioners Court documents.

The contract extension holds Tetra Tech responsible for several tasks, including overseeing Fort Bend County’s IIJA program, managing grants and providing technical assistance, such as federal policy guidance.

Specifically, Tetra Tech will provide support for up to 25 federal grant applications for projects including $1.6 million on improving more than 30 wooden bridges and more than 1,000 miles of road improvement; 11 grant applications for information technology projects; three grant applications for public transit; and six grant applications for proposed water infrastructure, electric vehicle and road projects.

Fort Bend County Commissioners Court approved the extension as the county grapples with its portion of the $35.44 million Texas received from the IIJA. The act, signed into law in November 2021, allocated funds to be used for transportation, water, power and energy, environmental remediation, public lands, broadband and resilience.

In total, with the extension, Fort Bend County will have paid Tetra Tech no greater than $458,592 since the county signed its contract March 8.
