When Jones starts on her official first day of Dec. 5, Missouri City City Council will have the ability to terminate her employment with or without cause, according to the contract.
The contract was unanimously approved by the council Nov. 7 following a closed executive session. Jones comes into the position after the council selected her during an Oct. 19 special meeting.
“I’m happy that we were able to unanimously make a selection with Angel Jones,” District A Council Member Monica Riley said during the Nov. 7 meeting.
The contract states that after one year of being employed by the city, should Jones be fired by City Council without cause, the city would agree to pay Jones a lump sum cash payment equal to six months of aggregate salary.
If fired with cause, the city would only be required to pay for all accrued leave as well as only be required to pay earned salary up to and including the date of termination, according to the contract.
Jones will take the helm from Sedrick Cole, the city’s interim city manager who was appointed to the interim role from his position as chief information officer on May 3. Cole was appointed to the position following the dismissal of Charles “Tink” Jackson, who was fired with cause by City Council following an investigation conducted by city-hired law firm DeDe Church & Associates.
