Fort Bend County Libraries’ Missouri City Branch, located at 1530 Texas Parkway, will offer a new diverse range of free programs for adults and children starting in September.

Children’s programs

Children participating in the library's programs will receive craft packets to enjoy at home.
  • Family Story Time will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15-10:45 a.m. in the Meeting Room. Families with children of all ages can engage in stories, songs and action rhymes. The themes for September include “Opposites,” “Mo Willems Day,” “Things That Go” and “Fruits & Vegetables.”
  • S.T.E.A.M. Afternoons will occur on the second and fourth Tuesdays from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Students in grades K-5 are invited to participate in creative activities that encourage innovative thinking. The September schedule includes “Building Club” and “Newton’s Cradle.”
  • Youth Book Club is scheduled for Sept. 11 from 6-6:45 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This activity, intended for students in grades three to eight, revolves around the “Dog Man” book series by Dav Pilkey. Students will engage in Flip-O-Rama creations inspired by the books.
  • Youth Computer Classes will take place on the second and fourth Thursdays from 4-4:45 p.m. in the Computer Lab. Geared toward students in grades three to eight, these classes require reservations. Topics for September include “Typing Club” and “Intro to Creative Writing.”
  • The Creative Connection occurs on the first Thursday of each month from 4-4:45 p.m. In the September session, students in grades four to eight can participate in a tile art activity using ceramic tiles and various artistic techniques.
Young adult programs

These events are for teenagers entering grades nine to 12.
  • Bubble Tea & Gamer’s Café is set for Sept. 19 from 4-5 p.m. in the Conference Room. Teens will enjoy games, snacks and bubble tea.
  • Young Adult Advisory Council will take place Sept. 26 from 4-5 p.m. in the Conference Room. Teens can share ideas and help shape future library services while earning volunteer hours.
Adult programs
  • Decluttering Your Home will be presented Sept. 1 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This session offers tips on removing clutter and creating an organized living space.
  • “Feeling Blue, Painting Red: Unlocking Emotions Through Paint” is scheduled for Sept. 2 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Watercolor artist Katie Steck combines art and psychology to explore emotions through painting. Participants will learn watercolor basics.
  • Lymphatic Breathing Hour will take place Sept. 8 from 12:15-1:45 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This session introduces lymphatic breathing techniques to promote relaxation.
  • Popcorn & a Movie is set for Sept. 9 from 1:30-4 p.m. in the Meeting Room. In celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day, attendees can enjoy popcorn while watching an adventure film.
  • Bob Ross Painting Hour will occur Sept. 13 from 7-8 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Participants can learn Bob Ross' painting style and techniques.
  • Hispanic Heritage Cooking Class will be offered on select Thursdays from Sept. 14 to Oct. 26 from 12:15-2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Erica Knighton from Prairie View A&M Extension Office will demonstrate Latin American cuisine preparation.
  • Box Breathing Hour will be Sept. 15 from 12:15-2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This session teaches relaxation through meditative breathing.
  • Live Online: FBCL Living Sustainably Club will stream Sept. 18 from 6-7 p.m. The club's virtual meeting will focus on electric vehicles and sustainable living.
  • Board Games & Adult Coloring is scheduled for Sept. 22 from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Participants can enjoy games, coloring, and socializing.
Adult Book Clubs
  • Talk Back Book Club will take place Sept. 2 from 11-noon in the Conference Room. This club discusses general fiction with this month's focus on the novel "Horse" by Geraldine Brooks.
  • Mystery Readers Book Club is set for Sept. 20 from 7-8 p.m. in the Conference Room. This club delves into mysteries and crime novels, discussing "Wrong Place, Wrong Time" by Gillian McAllister.
  • The Skin I’m In: a Book Club Featuring Authors of Color is scheduled for Sept. 23 from 11-noon in the Conference Room. This book club features works by authors from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds with this meeting's book being "Something Good" by Vanessa Miller.
