Why are you running for office?
For years I felt frustration seeing our health care system fail people throughout their lives. In my practice, geriatric medicine, I saw people riddled with ailments that would have been prevented with continuously regular health care. Because of this experience I’ve dedicated my life to not just ailing patients, but ailing policies.
What are your qualifications for why you’d be a strong candidate in this role?
My life has been dedicated to helping others as a primary care physician. In my first term I passed 36 bills into law in my first session, and 83 bills in 2025. I stood with fellow Democrats and broke quorum to fight the president and governor’s illegal power grab.
If elected, what will be your top priorities?
As a physician, improving health care access remains my top priority, especially expanding Medicaid. I will refile my bills to weaken insurance companies’ grip on patient care. On education, repealing Abbott’s private school voucher scam remains a top priority. Last, I intend to continue fighting to defend our democracy.
What are the biggest challenges facing this district, and how do you plan to address these issues?
Lack of access to affordable health care is a critical issue. Many families are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy. I often treat seniors who struggle to afford their medication. I will continue working to expand Medicaid eligibility to thousands of Texans who can’t afford to get sick or miss work.
What projects are most important for the Legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?
Water and energy are crucial to the future of Texas. Accelerating technology has made these essential resources more scarce. The Texas Legislature must invest in more clean energy and water conservation to keep up with rising demand. Otherwise, costs will continue to rise.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for Texas in the next five years?
Rising health care costs is our greatest challenge. With the cost of living rising, Texans are forced to choose between their health or putting food on the table. We need to expand Medicaid, bring prescription drug prices down and force insurance companies to lower costs.
