Local residents can soon apply for a position in the May 4 uniform election.

The details

The candidate filing period for the May local elections opens Jan. 17 and runs until Feb. 16. Multiple positions on Sugar Land City Council and the Fort Bend ISD board of trustees will be on the May ballot.

Candidates running for these positions are elected to serve three-year terms, according to the district’s and city’s websites. These positions include:

Fort Bend ISD board of trustees, Position 2
  • This position is held by Judy Dae, who is serving a one-year term as board president.
  • Position 2 candidates are from the west side of the district.
FBISD board of trustees, Position 6
  • This position is held by Kristen Davison Malone.
  • Position 6 candidates are from the east side of the district.
Sugar Land City Council, District 1
  • This position is held by Suzanne Whatley.
Sugar Land City Council, District 2
  • This position is held by Naushad Kermally, who serves as mayor pro tem.
Sugar Land City Council, District 3
  • This position is held by Stewart Jacobson.
Sugar Land City Council, District 4
  • This position is held by Carol K. McCutcheon.
What you need to know


Although FBISD candidates who file to run must reside on the side of the district the position requires, all voters can weigh in on all candidates, and candidates serve all district residents, according to the FBISD website.
