Sugar Land voters will elect City Council members for the four single-member district seats during the upcoming May 1 election.

Out of the four district seats, two of the elections are contested.

Suzanne Whatley and Donna Molho will run for the District 1 seat. Incumbent Council Member Steve Porter, who was first elected to City Council in 2013, is ineligible to run again this year due to term limits.

Incumbent Council Members Naushad Kermally and Stewart Jacobson did not draw challengers for the District 2 and 3 seats, respectively.

However, incumbent Council Member Carol McCutcheon will run against challenger Sakki Joseph for the chance to retain her District 4 seat.

Early voting for the May 1 election will take place from April 19-27, according to the Texas secretary of state's office.
