Margaritaville at Sea will become the Port of Galveston's seventh cruise line and offer weekly departures to Caribbean and Central American vacations beginning in October 2027, according to an Aug. 26 news release from Port of Galveston.

The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Aug. 25 to accept an agreement with Margaritaville at Sea that includes weekly sailings from Cruise Terminal 28, with an initial one-year term and options to renew for two additional five-year terms, according to the release.

“Like many of the 46 million people in our drive market, I grew up with ‘Cheeseburger in Paradise’ and still enjoy listening to Jimmy Buffett’s unique style of music,” Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO, said in the release.
What it means
The port expects 3.9 million passenger movements in 2026, according to the release. Cruise operations generate more than 4,547 jobs for Galveston area residents, $733 million in business revenues, $291 million in personal income and $25 million in state and local taxes.
Looking ahead
Margaritaville at Sea officials will hold an event in September to announce the name of the ship that will be homeported in Galveston, according to the release.
