There has been lots of news and announcements that have recently happened at Fort Bend ISD. Read down below for updates from the district.

Sugar Land 95

Fort Bend ISD continues its work to honor and memorialize the Sugar Land 95 as it begins Phase 2 of its Sugar Land 95 Memorialization Project, which includes the design of an outdoor learning plaza at the site of the Bullhead Convict Labor Camp Cemetery located on the James Reese Career and Technical Education campus, according to an Oct. 12 news release.

Fort Bend ISD held a symposium Oct. 1 to update the community on the project and gather feedback on the initial draft of the schematic design for the outdoor learning area and cemetery.

Changing schools policy

The Fort Bend ISD board of trustees voted unanimously Oct. 17 to postpone until Nov. 7 a resolution that would suspend a policy allowing students entering grades 10, 11 or 12 to remain at their current campus until the student graduates.

The item is associated with the fall 2023 opening of Almeta Crawford High School, 801 Caldwell Ranch Blvd., to allow the campus to open with students entering ninth and 10th grades by rezoning them from nearby schools, including Ridgepoint and Hightower high schools.

Board trustees voted to wait in order to gather more community input and explore any unintended consequences.

First Colony Middle School

After approval by the board of trustees Oct. 17, First Colony Middle School will receive a replacement for its potable hot- and cold-water lines.

Utilizing $1.2 million in 2018 bond contingency funds, the board approved the item as the district’s facilities department continues to repeatedly address recurring leaks and corrosion on the existing branched potable water line piping. Waiting for a bond to be passed by voters is not feasible, FBISD administrators said.
