According to spring State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness end-of-course results released by the Texas Education Agency in mid-June, Fort Bend ISD students continue to test above the state average, despite a mixed bag of improvements and declines over a variety of subjects.

The district saw improvements across algebra I and biology, and declines in both English I and English II, results from this spring's exams show. Meanwhile, U.S. history results were on par compared to the year prior.

Still, according to the results, while FBISD remains above the state average across the board, the district is still making up ground in algebra I and biology due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In algebra I, 50% of FBISD students met grade level this year, up from 43% the year prior. However, that still remains 17% lower than how students performed in 2019 when 67% of FBISD students met grade level in algebra I. Biology, meanwhile, has less of a gap to bridge with 65% of FBISD students meeting grade level this year compared to 72% in 2019.
Made with Flourish
Statewide, the TEA reports progress in algebra I, biology and U.S. history scores that saw declines during COVID-19.

“These results provide encouraging evidence that the academic recovery plans adopted by the Texas Legislature and implemented by our state’s 370,000 dedicated teachers are working for our students,” Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said in a June 16 news release. “We have made some progress to date, but there is still work to be done to fully recover from the academic effects of the COVID[-19] slide. We’re confident we’ll get there, because Texas educators are all-in on helping their students to make the necessary academic gains."
