Steve Bassett will become a Fort Bend ISD deputy superintendent after the board of trustees approved his appointment to the role Oct. 18 in a 6-1 vote, with trustee Angie Hanan voting against the motion.

Bassett was FBISD's chief financial officer from November 2013 to July 2019, according to a release from the district. He currently works as the associate superintendent of business services in Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, the release said.

FBISD said in the release he brings to the position 30 years of experience, primarily in finance. Bassett earned his bachelor's in business administration and master's in public administration degrees from the University of Texas, and he is a certified public accountant.

Diana Sayavedra, who served as interim superintendent from June until early October, will remain a deputy superintendent with the district.
