Candidate pool for Fort Bend ISD trustee election grows

On the final day to file to run for two Fort Bend ISD board of trustees positions, 11 candidates are now on the ballot for positions 3 and 7 as of Feb. 15.

The election will take place May 4.

Position 3 now has four candidates, including incumbent Jim Rice, while Position 7 has seen six new candidates file, including incumbent Dave Rosenthal.

Meanwhile, on Jan. 29, the board called for a special election to fill Position 5, vacated when KP George was elected Fort Bend County judge.

Six candidates are on the ballot for this position in which the remaining portion of the term runs until 2020. The election for Position 5 will also be on May 4.

Office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to drop off applications at Fort Bend ISD, 16431 Lexington Blvd., Room 103, Sugar Land, or mail in filled-out candidate packets to the same address.

Trustees are elected to three-year terms on a rotating basis. Two are elected each year, one from each side of the district—positions 1, 2 and 3 are on the west, and positions 5, 6 and 7 are on the east. Also, every third year, the at large Position 4 is elected, and the term end for this position is in 2020.
