A runoff election occurs when no candidate in a race receives more than 50 percent of the vote. The top two vote-getters in each race advance to a runoff.

After the March 6 primary elections, Fort Bend County residents in Sugar Land and Missouri City will see runoffs in the U.S. Representative District 22 Democratic race and the state Senator District 17 Democratic race.

Incumbent Pete Olson won the Republican primary race for the U.S. representative District 22 seat. However, Democrats Sri Preston Kulkarni and Letitia Plummer will face off in a runoff May 22.

Additionally, incumbent Joan Huffman won the Republican primary race for state Senate District 17, while Democratic candidates Rita Lucido and Fran Watson face a runoff.

If you did not vote in the March 6 primary elections, you can still vote in the May 22 primary runoff elections. If you voted in the March 6 primary elections, you must vote with the same party in the May 22 runoff elections.
