Gayatri Bhavan, a vegetarian Indian restaurant, opened early this year in Missouri City.

On the menu

The restaurant’s menu features starters, curries, biryanis and south Indian favorites, such as idly, which are steamed rice cakes served with lentils and coconut and tomato chutneys, General Manager Anil Prasad said. Other items include dosas, which are crispy savory crepes, chaats, or savory snacks, and sweets.

Digging deeper

The fully vegetarian menu is inspired by the owners' values and Hindu religion, Prasad said. However, he said customers don’t have to be vegetarian to enjoy the cuisine.

“Indian food is one such that actually, you don't really need meat,” he said. “That's what makes Indian vegetarian dishes so good, because they taste as great as any meat dish.”

What else?

The Missouri City location is the first franchise for the eatery, which has its first location in Houston on Westheimer Road, Prasad said. The local eatery is owned by franchisees Sachin Jain, Himanshu Joshi and Subra Rachakonda.

A Valentine's Day special will also be available at the new restaurant, Prasad said.
