The Swinging Door officially closed May 14 after serving the Richmond community for over 50 years. The landmark barbecue spot, located at 3818 FM359, Richmond, was well known for its beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken and sausage along their famous homemade sides.

“We have been blessed to have been of service to this area. However, this old BBQ guy has decided to move on to another chapter in life,” owner Steven Onstad said via social media.

According to The Swinging Door website, the restaurant opened on Labor Day in 1973. A dance hall was later added to the original building, becoming a popular travel spot for many Texans over the past five decades.
