Lago Mariscos, a new concept from the Cabrera family, opened Jan. 25 at 2329 Hwy. 6, Sugar Land.

The Cabreras are behind various other Houston-based restaurants, such as Los Cucos Mexican Cafe, Vida Mariscos and Gauchos Do Sul, location owner Sergio Cabrera said. Brothers Sergio Cabrera—Sergio’s father—and Manuel Cabrera launched the first Los Cucos 29 years ago at the intersection of Clay Road and Hwy. 6.

Similar to the Vida Mariscos concept, Sergio said the family’s goal is for Lago Mariscos to serve traditional Mexican food and fresh seafood dishes, including ceviche and oysters, Sergio said. It also offers a variety of micheladas and margaritas and will begin offering catering services in March.

“It’s a big opportunity here; I think Sugar Land needs a concept like this [with] seafood, live music, somewhere to go watch the game,” Sergio said. “Sugar Land has a lot of great restaurants, but not a seafood one where we can have that ambience.”

The Sugar Land eatery has numerous TVs, where it will showcase sporting events; Sergio also has plans to offer live music five nights a week. Lago Mariscos’ outdoor patio seats up to 100 people, and it overlooks the Town Center lake.
