DoubleDave's Pizzaworks, a Texas-based pizza franchise, aims to open in early February at 4875 Hwy. 6, Ste. C, Missouri City, franchisee owner Alex Sowell said.

The eatery’s menu will feature hand-tossed pizzas, sandwiches such as the Philly cheesesteak, appetizers, desserts and a tap wall with local beers. It will also serve its signature Peproni Rolls—which is a hand-tossed roll made with pepperoni and smoked provolone cheese—at the eatery as well as during Sugar Land Space Cowboys home games at Constellation Field, Sowell said.

Sowell and his family have a long history in the area, he said. Alex and his wife, Lauren Sowell, grew up in the Sugar Land area; they both attended Austin Parkway Elementary School, which is near the new DoubleDave's location in Missouri City.

In high school, Sowell worked at the former DoubleDave's location in Sugar Land and at the pizza eatery's Bryan/College Station location while attending Texas A&M University. He came to own the franchise location after more than a decade in the oil and gas industry.

“The culture and experience I had there, that kind of brought me back into the fold because once you work for DoubleDave's, it's like a family. You're always a part of the family,” he said.

The Missouri City location will also offer dine-in, delivery, curbside pickup and carryout for customers. DoubleDave’s has more than 30 locations in Texas as well as several in Oklahoma and Arizona, according to the website. www.doubledaves.com
