The first Houston-area Saladworks location opened in Sugar Land on Aug. 11 at 18802 University Blvd. Sibling owners Venus and Shane Allana said they were inspired to open a SaladWorks location after Shane lost 100 pounds.

“I did it with the help of my mom. She always made salads for me,” Shane said.

Saladworks offers a variety of salads, wraps, bowls, soups and sandwiches. The menu includes 60-plus ingredients. Venus said they fell in love with Saladworks food.

“There is something for everyone here. I think one of our items to try is the grain bowl. It is similar to a Chipotle-style bowl, and the flavors are on point with it,” Shane said.

Venus said all the employees at the new restaurants are family and friends.

“It just felt natural to have a business with my brother,” Venus said. “We work very well together. He has his roles, I have my roles, and we both just focus on that.”

The original Saladworks was opened in 1986 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Venus said they are excited about Saladworks now being in the Sugar Land area.

“The thing about [Saladworks] is you can always try different things. There are 60-plus ingredients, so you have a lot of variety,” Venus said.
