The annexation of Greatwood and New Territory in late 2017 caused Sugar Land's population to spike from 86,886 in 2017 to 118,182 in 2018, according to data from the U.S. Census.

In 2014, Sugar Land's population was 82,420, and the city saw steady growth from 2015-17, according to the data.

In addition to a spike in population from 2017 to 2018, the city also saw increases in home value and household income. The median home value was $292,700 in 2017 and $309,000 in 2018, while household income grew from $108,994 in 2017 to $122,233 in 2018.

Additional housing statistics show the median monthly rent in Sugar Land in 2018 was $1,719, and the median monthly mortgage payment was $2,271.

Resident age and education level remained fairly consistent. Median age in 2017 was 41.6, and the median age in 2018 was 41.4.

The percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a high school diploma remained at roughly 94%, and the percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelors degree or higher went from 58.8% in 2017 to 60.4% in 2018.
