Fort Bend County Health & Human Services reported 135 new coronavirus cases July 21, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 6,130.

Dr. Jacquelyn Minter, director of FBCHHS and the local health authority, said during a July 20 Fort Bend ISD meeting that the spread of the coronavirus in the county is "uncontrolled."

"It took us almost two months to get to our first thousand cases," Minter said during the meeting. "It took about six weeks to get to the next thousand, and about three weeks to get to the next thousand. In the last week, we logged another thousand."

On July 21, the county also confirmed that 81 more people had recovered from the virus. The county reported zero additional coronavirus-related deaths July 21.

Of the 6,130 cases in the county, 2,211 people are reported to have recovered from the virus, and 72 people have died from it, leaving a presumed 3,847 active cases.

Furthermore, there are 280 people being treated for the coronavirus in Fort Bend County hospitals, according to July 21 data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Committee, up 16 people from July 20.


Of these patients, 70 are in intensive care units. COVID-19 patients account for 66% of all patients in local ICUs. As of July 21, a total of 106 of Fort Bend County hospitals' 122 operational ICU beds are in use.


Coronavirus in Sugar Land and Missouri City


FBCHHS is now reporting that there are 707 coronavirus cases in the Fort Bend County portion of Missouri City. Sugar Land follows with 626 coronavirus cases.

Missouri City has more than 10 cases of the coronavirus per 1,000 residents. In Fort Bend County as a whole, there are 7.55 cases per every 1,000 residents.

At the ZIP code level, Missouri City ZIP code 77459 has the most cases of any Sugar Land or Missouri City ZIP code with 606 cases.
