Dr. Jacquelyn Minter, director of Fort Bend County Health and Human Services, said in an email to Community Impact Newspaper that the recent daily high case counts are not being classified as a spike.

Instead, Minter said the high cases counts June 3 and 4 were administrative in nature, as the county received an increased number of reports of new coronavirus tests from the state during those days. These tests were collected between March 29-June 4, she said.

On June 3, 4 and 7, the county reported more than 80 cases each day, higher single-day totals than the county has reported since early April.

The chart below shows the number of new coronavirus cases reported each day over the past month.

June 11 coronavirus update

Fort Bend County reported 21 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 43 recoveries June 11, according to information published by the county online.

The new data brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the county to 2,320. Of those, there are 1,332 active cases, 941 recoveries and 47 deaths.

On June 11, the number of hospitalizations in Fort Bend County increased by one to 24. Last week, Fort Bend County reported an average of 19.6 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus.

This comes as statewide Texas reports record-high numbers of coronavirus hospitalizations. On June 10, 2,153 Texans were in the hospital with the coronavirus, The Texas Tribune reported. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has said he is monitoring hospitalizations as he continues to lift restrictions on the economy.

At the time of publication, Fort Bend County had not updated their maps that show where cases of coronavirus are located. Minter said in an email that the county is working to hire a Geographic Information Systems Specialist who will be able to provide more consistent updates.

The most recent information on coronavirus cases at the city and ZIP code level can be found in Community Impact Newspaper coverage from June 10.
