Starting June 29, jury duty will resume in person for the Sugar Land Municipal Court, according to a press release from the city of Sugar Land. In-person court proceedings had previously been suspended since March 12, 2020, due to COVID-19 limitations.

Jury summons began to be mailed out to residents again starting May 17.

These in-person trials will be held in the City Hall Annex to comply with social distancing requirements. The Sugar Land Municipal Court will remain open for remote proceedings only, due to the building’s space restrictions.

“Having jury proceedings at the City Hall Annex allows us the space and flexibility we need to continue the normal business of the court,” Kendra Beverly, Sugar Land municipal court administrator, said in the press release.

In keeping with COVID-19 protocol, jurors will be in assigned seats, spaced apart from one another, and docket sizes will be limited. All visitors and employees will have their temperatures taken when they arrive, and the space will be cleaned between each proceeding.
