Missouri City City Council unanimously approved a $0.63 rate rate per $100 evaluation during a regular meeting Oct. 7. The $0.63 rate is composed of two parts: a $0.47 maintenance and operations rate and a $0.16 debt service rate.

Because this rate is higher than the effective tax rate—the tax rate needed to give the city the same amount of revenue as it had in the previous fiscal year—the city was required to hold two public hearings. Those hearings occurred Sept. 12 and 23.

Mayor Yolanda Ford said this is an effective 4.3% property tax increase.
