Fort Bend ISD is encouraging interested community members to join its pilot Board Leadership Academy, a nine-month education program set to begin in September.

A class of 14 participants will learn from FBISD leaders about the district systems and operations set in place, according to a press release from FBISD on Monday. Covered topics include school finance and budget; curriculum; planning and accountability; and legislation and advocacy.

From September through May, participants will attend an opening retreat and district tour, seven evening sessions, board meetings and a day trip to the Texas Capitol.

“We are excited to welcome a new cohort into the FBISD Board Leadership Academy, which is truly a unique learning experience,” FBISD Board President Jason Burdine said in the press release. “Participation allows individuals to gain a better understanding of how we operate—and ultimately, how we work together to achieve our district mission.”

Community members can fill out and submit an online application at www.fortbendisd.com/boardleadershipacademy. The district will accept applications until Aug. 17, and selected participants will receive an email notification Aug. 31. Tuition is $125, and scholarship opportunities are available to those in financial need.
