Fort Bend ISD is presenting a new online application process to approve off-campus physical education activities, according to a FBISD announcement released Thursday.

Businesses and organizations can now apply for district approval to offer P.E. programs to students through July 13, according to the FBISD website. Programs and activities must meet the district’s guidelines as determined by school administrators and by the Texas Education Agency.

Similarly, students who wish to participate in off-campus activities must also apply online for approval, with the application period taking place from Aug. 1-17, said Amanda Bubela, FBISD director of external communications and media relations. The new process is a streamlined effort to improve efficiency.

The district recognizes two categories of off-campus P.E. activities, according to FBISD. Category one activities are for middle and high school students engaging in a minimum of 15 hours per week of Olympic-level, supervised training that leads to national competitions. Students in category one activities may be dismissed from school during the P.E. period, typically in the beginning or end of the school day.

In contrast, category two activities pertain to students participating in at least five hours per week of structured programming and are not excused from school during the P.E. period. A list of approved activities for both categories can be found on the FBISD website.
