The Fort Bend County Library Missouri City branch closed today for renovations that will add 9,600 square feet of space to the library over the next 10 to 12 months. The remodeling project, estimated to cost $6.4 million, is part of the $19.8 million bond referendum approved by voters in November 2015, according to the library’s website. The expansion plans call for a new computer lab, study rooms, and conference spaces. The library’s technology will also be upgraded, with radio-frequency identification chips placed in all books and self-checkout stations installed in the building. Any books or other items checked out may be returned to any any of the nine branch libraries in the Fort Bend County library system, and items requested and placed on hold have been moved to the Sienna Branch library.
