City residents want to turn the U.S. Postal Service distribution center in Missouri City into a full-service post office. It would be the city’s second such facility. The other location is the post office on Texas Parkway.
Sugar Land and Pearland each have two full-service post offices while Missouri City customers near Glenn Lakes Lane—where the distribution center is located—often drive to the Grants Lake Boulevard location in Sugar Land.
Missouri City City Council member Anthony Maroulis said the matter is about USPS being able to grow with the city’s population needs.
“It’s about the level of service that Missouri City is getting,” he said.
Maroulis said he thought a second full-service location would be a great resource, particularly with the commercial development at Lakeside Business Park and Beltway Crossing.
The council discussed possibly expanding the distribution center driveway and adding a drop box, which Maroulis said would cost more than $50,000.
USPS offered to split the cost with the city, but council members said that would likely come out of the city’s sidewalk and street repair funds. Maroulis said he was not prepared to support that option.
City Manager Anthony Snipes said anything to do with reconfiguring the post office distribution center is a federal issue.
“Missouri City has tried to understand what Glenn Lake’s long-term intentions are in terms of services at that location,” Snipes said.
The city has not committed funds to the project yet. A spokesperson for USPS could not be reached for comment.
