Sales tax revenue continues to grow into the new year, according to a news release from the Office of the State Comptroller, Glenn Hagar.

The following is a breakdown of Sugar Land and areas cities and counties based on sales tax allocations for the month of January, as well as a 13-month comparison. Sales tax is distributed based on allocations the month prior.

In total, Hagar distributed a total of $1.07 billion in sales tax revenue statewide, an increase of approximately 7.6% against last year’s disbursement in January.

Sugar Land

In the first month of 2023, Sugar Land received $5.5 million in sales tax revenue based on December sales, which is $180,254 more than the city received in January 2022, or a 3.95% increase. From January 2022 to January 2023, Sugar Land received $70.3 million, which is $8.35 million or 13.5% more than it raised from January 2021 to January 2022.


Missouri City

Missouri City received approximately $1.2 million in sales tax revenue for the month of January, an increase of $77,226, or 6.86%, over January 2022’s revenue of $1.1 million.

Over the past 13 months, Missouri City has collected $15.6 million in revenue, which is 11.75% or $1.64 million more than it received from January 2021 to January 2022.

Katy


Katy’s sales tax revenue continued to expand in January 2022 to $1.8 million, an increase of 20%, or $312,000, over the same time last year. From January 2022 to January 2023, Katy received $21.5 million in sales tax revenue, an increase of 14.8%, or $1.6 million, over that same 13-month period from January 2021 to January 2022.

Fort Bend County

Fort Bend County does not levy a countywide sales tax.
