'Ghosts of Sugar Land' to premiere on Netflix on Oct. 16

A Netflix documentary set in Sugar Land will debut Oct. 16.

"Ghosts of Sugar Land" tells the story of a group of Muslim Americans living in Sugar Land as they trace the disappearance of their friend who is suspected of joining ISIS.

Referred to as "Mark" in the short film, the movie follows the social misfit who converted to Islam before entering college, according to a press release. His group of friends began to worry about him when he began alienating himself and leaving cryptic messages on social media before disappearing, the release said.

The storyline follows the group of men as they try to piece together what happened to their friend. The film won the Short Film Jury Award for Nonfiction at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, the release stated.
