The funding comes as the city works its way through the 2022 capital improvement plan.
The three stations, which are located at Elkins, Terrace View and Robinsons Ferry, are a “critical part of transporting wastewater from residents' homes and businesses to the city’s wastewater treatment plants,” city documents said. Wastewater lift stations have a 25-year life span, and city officials said on Dec. 19 they are seeking to proactively rehabilitate a number of the lift stations to maintain current service levels.
The $1.4 million price tag comes after five bids were submitted. The winning bid went to Matula & Matula, a Lake Jackson-based nonresidential construction company. The company offered a bid of $1.34 million, which was $40,000 lower than the city engineer’s estimate of $1.38 million. Additional costs include a 5% contingency fund and an estimated administrative cost of $21,000, for a total project estimate of approximately $1.4 million.
The project will let in January 2023 and is expected to complete by September.
