More than 300,000 customers were affected by power outages across the Houston area due to severe thunderstorms June 21.

As of 12:30 p.m. June 22, about 100,000 CenterPoint Energy customers are still without power and 5,000 Entergy customers in Montgomery and Harris counties are without power, according to outage trackers from the companies.

CenterPoint Energy provides electricity to most of Harris, Brazoria and Galveston counties; some southern parts of Montgomery County; and all of Fort Bend County. Entergy services most of Montgomery County as well as other states.

Most of the power outages in the Houston area are in the Spring, Tomball and the Woodlands area, per the outage maps.

CenterPoint Energy Alerts on Twitter reported a complete restoration time frame for power cannot be determined immediately due to damage caused by fallen trees and debris to distribution lines.

Assessing damages

Additionally, the Texas Division of Emergency Management is assessing damages in the affected areas and urges people to report damages at http://damage.tdem.texas.gov, according to the TDEM. This information will assist officials in determining the state's eligibility for different forms of disaster assistance.

Houston residents are advised to prioritize health and safety measures following the aftermath of the storm, according to a June 22 news release from Harris County Public Health.

Safety measures include:
  • Disposing perishable food after power outage
  • Wearing protective layers during cleanup
  • Using generators outdoors
  • Staying hydrated in hot weather
  • Checking for road closures
  • Staying cautious around frightened animals
Montgomery County residents without power can seek shelter at these three cooling centers from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., according to the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management:
  • Saint Simon Saint Jude Catholic Parish, 26777 Glen Loch Drive, The Woodlands
