A new theater at the Moriah Davis School of the Arts Foundation—a nonprofit all-ages dance, theater and art school—is now open, according to an Oct. 1 email from a school spokesperson. The 105-seat theater is to be used for performances, including full-length musicals and dance recitals, as well as community rental.

To build the theater, the original room was expanded and painted, and lights and seat risers were added, according to the email. Project leaders are waiting for donated theater seats to arrive, and elements still to be added including curtains, lighting and speakers.

Donations are currently being accepted by MDSA for the new theater. According to the MDSA website, those who donate:
  • $200 earn an “in-studio art installation”
  • $500 receive a personalized theater chair plaque
MDSA was originally founded in August 2014 and the MDSA Foundation was founded in 2016. The school’s 10-year anniversary was celebrated in the spring.

The organization’s president, Moriah Davis, created the school after teaching out of her home, according to the MDSA website. Two of her young dance students, Becca and Emily, who passed away in 2014, are honored through the school’s motto, “BE dance.”
