State Rep. Kevin Roberts, R-Spring, on Wednesday announced he will run for re-election in the 2018 Republican primary.
In a statement, Roberts said he is seeking to retain his seat after receiving positive feedback on his performance in the 85
th legislative session from his constituents.
Gov. Greg Abbott signed three bills into law that Roberts authored and seven bills Roberts co-authored or co-sponsored during the 2017
legislative session. The legislation addresses issues including reducing state agency regulation, reviewing testing requirements for special education students and allowing the state’s Department of Family and Protective Services to work with nonprofits—including faith-based organizations—to provide services to families in crisis.
Lawmakers will reconvene in Austin for a
special legislative session on July 18. Abbott called for the session to address legislation which failed to pass during the regular session.
Roberts won the
November 2016 election for District 126 Texas State Representative with 58 percent of the vote.
The primary will take place March 6, 2018.
