A new study across the state of Texas has identified the most dangerous intersections using crash data from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The project—launched by Houston attorney Brian White in a partnership with the data visualization company 1Point21 Interactive—uses more than 2 million accident reports compiled between 2012 and 2015.

According to TxDOT, an intersection related crash takes place when the first harmful event occurs on an approach to, or exit from, an intersection and results from an activity or behavior related to the movement of traffic through the intersection. This definition includes intersections of freeways—their on-ramps off-ramps and service streets—as well as major thoroughfares and country roads.

A total of 279 intersections were identified as the site of 48 or more collisions during that four-year period. Of the number, 82 are in Houston. The most deadly intersection on the list is at Bammel N. Houston Road and Beltway 8 in North Houston, with three fatalities during the time period studied.

The two most dangerous intersections in the Spring and Klein area are:

  • FM 1960 and Hwy. 249-147 crashes and 94 injuries

  • Spring Cypress Road and Hwy. 249-78 crashes and 14 injuries

Other intersections near the Spring and Klein area which ranked high in the study include:

  • Bammel N. Houston Road and Beltway 8-55 crashes, 28 injuries and 3 fatalities

  • I-45 and Rankin Road-122 crashes and 74 injuries

  • Hwy. 249 and Northpointe Blvd.-87 crashes and 43 injuries

  • Beltway 8 and Ella Blvd.-73 crashes and 30 injuries

  • Beltway 8 and Hwy. 249-60 crashes and 21 injuries
