Klein Volunteer Fire Department is planning to build a new firehouse for the Gleannloch Farms subdivision and is looking for volunteers to help staff the station, Chief David Bessolo said.

The new station will cost approximately $3.5 million and a ground breaking ceremony will be held after a contractor is chosen for the project, Bessolo said. It is due to open in early 2017 at 9600 Crescent Clover Drive, Spring.

Located a half-mile from the Grand Parkway, the station will serve the greater Gleannloch Farms area from Champion Forest Drive to the Grand Parkway, Bessolo said. The station will be staffed by professional firefighters from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and volunteers on nights and weekends.

The facility will include a day room, offices and dormitories. Training for new firefighters lasts three months and is conducted in-house, two days a week, Bessolo said.

The department was founded in 1951 and has a total of 200 personnel—140 volunteer, 60 paid, covering an area of 52 square miles.
