The Willowbrook Plaza shopping center will soon debut a new look following $30 million in renovations and the addition of eight new tenants, officials with property owner MGold Properties announced in a news release April 5.

Located at 17355 Hwy. 249, Houston, Willowbrook Plaza features 384,858 square feet of retail space and is anchored by major tenants including AMC Theatres and Bed Bath & Beyond.

MGold Properties, a Miami-based developer, purchased the shopping center in December for $37.8 million. At the time of acquisition, the Willowbrook Plaza had a 22% vacancy rate, according to the release.

Since then, MGold Properties has begun renovations on the shopping center, including fresh paint, updated landscaping and a new courtyard area. Work is also underway at eight storefronts to prepare for new tenants, such as a pizza parlor and hibachi and Greek restaurants, the release stated.

"We are excited about bringing our shoppers back and attracting new visitors to Willowbrook," MGold Properties President and Developer Mark Gold said in a statement. "Those who have visited in the past will not recognize it. We look forward to being good neighbors and community partners and contributing to the rebirth of the plaza."

According to the release, Willowbrook Plaza is the 17th property owned by MGold Properties, which has plans to continue expanding its footprint across the Greater Houston area.
