Memorial Hermann officials announced three of its 24-hour emergency rooms will close, effective Aug. 23 until further notice.

The following locations will be affected:

“Patients who are currently receiving care inside any of these emergency rooms will be safely discharged or transferred to another Memorial Hermann facility,” officials said in a statement posted on Memorial Hermann’s website. “Members of our community who require emergent care should proceed to another nearby emergency center for assistance.”

The closings are following an Aug. 11 announcement that Memorial Hermann would reinstitute a no-visitor policy at all facilities as the hospital system continues to deal with rising COVID-19 cases. Officials said limited exceptions can be made to the policy, though all eligible individuals would be required to complete a health screening.

As of Aug. 23, Texas has 252,509 active COVID-19 cases, including 13,346 COVID-19-related hospitalizations, according to data provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services.
