Voices from the past presents: Sojourner

Performer and writer Hope Shiver aims to teach her audiences the significance of African American spirituals and will bring the history of abolitionist Sojourner Truth to life through music. The program is presented by Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment in partnership with Young Audiences of Houston. The Barbara Bush Branch Library is partnering with the The Michelle Project to bring families, especially ones with homeschooled students, an opportunity to explore various careers. Guest speakers will present information on different professions while younger children can enjoy a book read and activities. This event’s focus is historically Black colleges or universities, and the "All About..." series is part of Harris County Public Library’s African American History Month programming. Big Island Little Cheese Shoppe—originally based out of Hawi, Hawaii—and Elixir Lounge Kava Bar will be hosting cheese-making classes in Old Town Spring. Participants can enjoy kava drinks and charcuterie while learning how to make mozzarella. The first drink is free for attendees, and additional drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
