KISD is governed by a seven-member board of trustees. Each member is elected to an at-large position for three years. An election is held each year for either two or three positions.

The following applications to appear on the ballot were received before the deadline:
Position 3:
- Chris "CT" Todd (incumbent)
- Natalie Pilkinton
- Dustin Creager (incumbent)
- Benny R. Kinsey
- Denise Morrison
- Justin "Bumpy" Wooldridge
- Nicole Doerre Peters
The deadline to file an application for write-in candidacy is Aug. 23, per the Texas Secretary of State. Other upcoming election dates to know include:
- Oct. 7: Last day to register to vote
- Oct. 21: First day of early voting
- Nov. 1: Last day of early voting
- Nov. 5: Election Day
