How we got here

In addition to Thibodeaux and Ward Johnson, Jerry Ford, Mo Jenkins and Rosalind Caesar ran in the March 5 primary race. Since no candidate earned a majority of votes, the top two vote-getters went to the primary runoff.

Thibodeaux earned 33.29% of votes in March, and Ward Johnson had 24.06% of votes.

State Rep. Jarvis Johnson, D-Houston, has represented District 139 position since May 2016, but he is now campaigning for the Texas Senate District 15 seat, Community Impact previously reported.

What’s next?

No Republicans ran in the Texas House District 139 primary, so the runoff winner will be the sole candidate on the race’s ballot in November.
