Early voting results show Valoree Swanson taking an early lead in the race for Texas House of Representatives District 150 in the March 1 primary election, according to the Harris County elections administrator’s office.
As of 7:22 p.m., Swanson leads with 70.27% of votes, followed by Debbie Riddle with 24.81% of votes, Valerie McGilvrey with 2.55% of votes and Bryan Le with 2.37% of votes.
Swanson was first elected to this position in 2017 after unseating Riddle in 2016. In a Q&A with Community Impact Newspaper, she highlighted border security, fair and free elections, lowering taxes and limited government as her top priorities.
Riddle is running in the primary in an attempt to reclaim her seat in the House after losing to Swanson in the 2016 primary. Riddle previously served in the House for almost 15 years and hopes to secure the chance to work on border security and resume her work of leading pro-life initiatives.
McGilvrey is a private investigator that formerly served as a Texas property and casualty insurance adjuster.
Le’s background is in owning restaurants and running businesses.
Ginny Brown Daniel ran as the sole Democrat on the District 150 primary ballot and will be on the general election ballot in November alongside the winner of the Republican primary.
All results are unofficial until canvassed.
It is unclear if voting results on Harris County's elections website represent all early votes cast. The secretary of state’s office reported Harris County would not be able to count and report all primary election votes by the March 2 deadline due to damage to physical ballot sheets.
